Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale has more nice places for mature men and their admirers than any other gay resort. It doesn't have the frenetic atmosphere of Miami and is generally more upmarket and relaxed. Excellent gay hotels and a nice selection of gay and non-gay resturants make it the Grayde Award winning resort for the US region.

Most of the Gay Guest Houses are near the beach between Los Olas and Sunrise boulevards but the gay bars and restaurants tend to be spread around the ctiy - although a number are concentrated in the Wilton Manors area. For this reason, having a car is a big asset if you are planning to stay near the beach. If you don't have a car, consider staying in the Wilton Manors area to be nearer the bars.

After an extensive $1.2M reft in July 2002, the Villa Venice is now up with the Royal Palms or St. Sebastian in terms of facilties and also cost. The centerpiece is a waterfall-fed swimming pool and 15-man Roman Spa. The exterior landscaping was removed and replaced. Each of the 20 rooms and suites were renovated, including new furnishings and appointments -- including CVD and CD players, in-room electronic safes and luxury lines, robes and towels -- along with marble baths and lots of tile. Guests have access to laundry facilities, free bikes, complimentary poolside refreshments, and workaholic can use the 24-hour private guest business center.

A nice restaurant and piano bar which attracts the older crowd and admirers. Does start to get business earlier in the evening from 4:30 - 5:00 PM. It had a major refit over the last few years and expanded into the next property and is much improved as a result. Excellent piano bar and a huge fishtank add to the ambiance. The daily lunch buffet is a great deal (and good quality); nightly dinner specials also make this an affordable alternative for locals and tourists alike. The drinks are affordable and a full pour.

Key West

Key west was THE gay mecca for those seeking some winter sun but over recent years this has been changing . Faced with the onslaught of thousands of cheap cruises dumping their load of equally cheap straight tourists, a number of gay business have gone and the character of the place has changed.
Don't get me wrong. You can still have a gay old time in Key West and some of the gay guesthouses are superb, but it's not a gay as it used to be and doesn't seem that popular with mature gay men.
